i brush my teeth about 4 times a day..and i got my braces on about 3 months ago and i noticed white spots on my two front teeth..why is that?
If i brush my teeth to much..can i get white spots on my teeth from braces??
White spots may develop from the acid etch that is used to roughen the tooth surface so the bonding material will adhere to the tooth when they cement your braces on.
Or white spots are demineralization of the tooth enamel.
Ask your Dentist or Dental Hygienist for a prescription strength Fluoride you can brush on your teeth everyday to prevent this from occurring
In the meantime pick up some ACT fluoride rinse you can find in the toothpaste isle.
Fluoride incorporates itself into the enamel to make it stronger and remineralizes the weak spots thus preventing the white spots.
Reply:Im not to sure..Should ask your dentist when you next go!
If you dont brush your teeth properly %26amp; enough times through the day food can get stuck round your brace %26amp; when they remove it you can end up with brown marks etc..I had a brace on when i was 13 for 8months and burshed mine everytime i had food and when i woke up %26amp; went bed %26amp; mine where fine
Reply:It is probably plaque. But i did hear that if you brush your teeth too much it can fade your teeth, Check with your dentist.
Reply:I also have white spots on my two front teeth. They developed while I had braces. I asked the dentist and I was told that it had something to do with the metal brackets and the way the calcium deposited around them in my teeth. That didn't make any sense to me. However, that is what I was told by the dentist. I hate those spots. I am sure no one notices them but it still makes me self conscious about my smile. Hope this helps! :)
Reply:Toothpaste is very abrasive. If you are brushing your teeth a lot, try only using toothpaste only once a day. The rest of the time, just brush them with plain water.
Overbrushing can actually wear the enamel off your teeth when you use toothpaste. Once it's gone, it's gone. Then you will start having all kinds of problems like tooth sensitivity to hot and cold and you will get cavities more easily.
As for the white spots, I would ask your orthodontist. Tell them that they bother you.
