Needs to extract so many teeth for braces?

i will explain my whole situation.

1) I just did a root canal treatment.

2) I have got 4 wisdom teeth.

3) I hope to put on braces.

i was done with the root canal. As u may know, i need to install a crown over the tooth. But the endo-dentist asked if i wanted braces.

If yes, then i should go ahead with braces instead of crown as it will cement the tooth on that spot. And braces there's a band around the tooth to secure it.

but.........=(

She referred me to a oral surgeon for my wisdom teeth. I did an x-ray.

I have 2 upper ones, considered healthy, and 2 bottom ones impacted. It looks quite bad as they were growing sidewards. one was half exposed. the other is under the gums.. I feel so sad knowing it. Will this be very bad? Will this complicates the extraction further...?

Coming to the point of the question. Braces. (cont')

Needs to extract so many teeth for braces?
Don't worry about the wisdom teeth extactions. I have worked for an oral surgeon for the last 8 years, (and my dad is one too, so I have grown up with all of this). Wisdom teeth removal is very common, and full bony impaction is why you would want to see an oral surgeon. This is what we do all day day in and day out. Horizontal impaction is quite common. This of course makes the teeth more difficult to get out, but that's why you see a surgeon for this. I would recommend general anesthesia for the procedure, which an oral surgeon can administer. Good luck! You will be fine!
Reply:You can keep the wisdom teeth but why? If they suggest them out then get them out. I had mine til I was almost 40 and getting them out was horrible!! Young people heal better, lol. The orthodontist knows and will not leave you with a gap. I truely would get all the work done, a healthy mouth is more important than you think.
Reply:First off it's not a big deal to get the wisdom teeth out. I got mine pulled after I had my braces. But if you have 2 impacted, do get them removed. It can become bad (infection n such).

As for the root canal... They will have a metal bracket around 4 of your teeth. Though a word of caution. Teeth that have root Canals get weak because they have no blood flow coming into the tooth to provide nutriance. The tooth can get brittle. I know from experience. I had one that was done and it later cracked in half, creating an infection and resulting in me having to get it removed. Not fun.

Regarding the other teeth, I'm surprised your dentist isn't doing a spacer bar to widen your jaw. I've gone through braces and my eye teeth were overlapping my front teeth on the top. They gave me what they call an appliance (that later removed when they put the braces on) that I adjusted 1-2 times a day. Hurt like a bugger at first but did give my upper jaw the widening it needed so all my teeth had space. I only needed to extract my wisdom teeth (because if I had kept them there would have been crowding). Perhaps ask if that's a possibility to space the teeth better.
Reply:I had braces some years ago as my jaw was too small to support all my teeth, hence I had overcrowding and some teeth were forced behind others. I had to have 2 teeth from my upper jaw removed and 2 teeth from my lower jaw removed. I also felt a bit worried about having my teeth removed, but it is fine. It is better, as then your teeth have more room and will be nice and straight! And it looks perfectly fine. You won't even notice they are gone and neither will anyone else.

Although you may think you don't need your teeth removed from your lower jaw, they need to be removed so you have the same number of teeth on both your upper and lower jaws. Otherwise your two extra top teeth will have nothing to rest on. Don't worry about having gaps where your teeth are removed, you won't. The braces will cause your other teeth to move so you will have no gaps, you will end up with a nice straight smile!

I also had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed. They were coming out once I had my braces removed and the orthodontist recommended removing them, as they may cause my teeth to become overcrowded again. So, don't worry about losing those either, lots of people get them removed, as they cause trouble to them.

Good luck with your braces, if you decide to get them! It will hurt, but it will be worth it! :)
Reply:Okay, teeth actually have numbers, so when you use letters I am rather confused. Number one is your widsom tooth on the top right. You count from right, 17 is the widsom tooth on the left at the bottom. So, 32 is the wisdom tooth on the right, bottom. I'm assuming you're talking about numbers 8,9, and 10.

The reason teeth are pulled for braces is because your mouth only has so much space for your teeth. Malclusion is from there not being enough space, so teeth become crowded. So, teeth have to be removed inorder for teeth to correctly fit.

If your wisdom teeth are facing the front, they're mesially impacted, if they face towards your esophogus, they're distally impacted. It's actually common though, most people have impacted molars, and some people don't have third molars at all. Don't feel bad that your tooth is impacted, the alignment of your teeth, the shape, the size, it's all genetic. :) I'm sure you'll be fine.
