Anyone else experienced weakened teeth after having braces?

I probably had 1 or maybe 2 fillings before i had my braces and i had them for 5 years (elastics, brackets, springs and all!) but shortly after having them taken off, everytime i have gone to the dentists i have needed a filling! i think i had 1 when i had them on but that was an old one that had fallen out over the course of the years and because my teeth had moved.

i know it's not because i filling could not be done when i had braces because i had that one done so thinking that its due to them being on so long and weakening the enamel as now they are exposed whereas before the fronts and backs were covered slightly.

i have spoken to my dentist about this and she just says that it is down to a change in diet but i eat the same foods now as i did then and always have done! i eat less sugary foods like chocolate and sweets, cake etc and dont really drink pop even tho iv always drank fruit juices which i know can be bad for your teeth but i always make sure my teeth are clean afta.

Anyone else experienced weakened teeth after having braces?
Due to all the pushing and pulling of teeth/extra food held against teeth by braces/lack of flossing causing even more food to be caught inbetween teeth/gum swelling causing increase of food held against teeth/brushing habits that do not clean as well due to the braces getting in the way/and usually an increase in sugary juices, sodas, and candies due to teenage years most people experience weakend teeth after and during braces. Getting a fluoride rinse or brush on gel can help "remineralize these teeth" and help prevent you from getting as many cavities. Also, Floss!! For extra help do not rinse after brushing, most people do this and rinse off all the fluoride vitamins in toothpaste so you do not get the benefits from the toothpaste. Instead, brush, spit, don't rinse and try to wait 30 minutes to eat or drink. Also, try to keep sweets and juices or pops only to meal times (do not snack all day long or sip these drinks constantly) Stick to water and sugar free gum between meals.
Reply:when your teeth moved it may take a while for them to get back in normal, but don´t be scared, follow the diet of no sugar and keep filling them when needed, im sure it will be a point when u will remove braces and they will be straight and perfect. the sacrifice worth it.

Take care
Reply:Welcome to youing adulthood. Remember that your body is changing all of the time. Teeth are relatively slow to change with calcium and floride moving in and out over a long time. changes that you made years ago in your diet or brushing habits can just now be catching up to you---like less calcium because of ibs???

I had no cavities as a kid and I did not wear braces, but when I got to college I was running home to the dentist all of the time. I was still taking care of my teeth, but suddenly they were more vulnerable to cavities.
Reply:yes, and also cavities, sensitive, and still crooked
Reply:When the brace came off the tooth it took some of the enamel with it, which makes you prone to cavities, also all the years where braces prevented you from reaching area that allowed decay to build up.
Reply:I am not a dentist.I can ask a colleague. But untill then,I would like to know more about your history, your age ,whether you are diabetic or not ,any old or new drug history, and I think your dentist has to examine it before telling.Anyway our teeth need care by the main brush in a certain way for two times at least ,the more important is by the end of the day.Your diet should contain Calcium element from milky products or the eggs. And needs protein diet everyday in meat and liver and beans and peas.Lots of fluids ,better if water in the warm or the hot weather especially that might reach 6 litres to 8 per day.other calcium supplement especially the citrate salt of it are present in the market,Beware any phytate containing food as macroni or rice mixed with calcium containing food because they form the non water soluble ,non absorbable form of ca phytate.Put lemon and Vitamin C on meat or Liver or take a supplement of it also to protect your gingiva daily and help absorb cacium....Expose yourself to sun rays to form Active vitamin D3 in our body to help absorb calcium. If sun is not available daily in a safe 1 to 2 hours...Take vitamin D3 active complement or Supplement .An interdental brush can help prevent deposition of large paricles in teeth gaps.Treat inflammation in gingiva and give any other drug history or disease history that might affect the teeth.........Dr sherif lanson Khalil of Egypt(002 010 148 3138) sherilanson@yahoo.com
Reply:My Beautiful daughter had one of her front teeth go grey as a result of braces, It cost quite a bit to have it looking normal again, but the whole thing was necessary %26amp; worth it for her.
